Resolution to Approve Amendments to the Council Rules
Memorandum
The Council Administration Committee distributed the attached proposed amendments to Council Rules as a communication item on the May 6, 2024 Council Agenda with the intent to sponsor a Resolution to Approve Amendments to Council Rules on the May 20, 2024 Council Agenda.
These amendments to Council Rules have come about after an extensive process of review by Staff and the City Attorney’s Office. The amendments are intended to clarify areas of ambiguity and make rules consistent with Council practice and with modern technology.

Whereas, It is a goal of the City Council to improve the way Council works together as a body, modeling civil discourse for our community, building trust in local government, and ensuring meetings are accessible to the public;
Whereas, The City Attorney’s Office recently undertook an effort to review existing Council Rules and suggest amendments based on feedback from Staff, the Council Administration Committee, and the City Attorney’s Office; and
Whereas, After a thorough review process, the Council Administration Committee has recommended revisions to Council Rules with the intent to make the Rules clearer, remove ambiguity, and to make Council Rules consistent with current Council practice and modern technology;
RESOLVED, That the City Council adopts the attached amendments to the Rules of the Council.
