Title
Resolution to Approve an Agreement with MDOT for a Mural on the West Huron Street Railroad Bridge (Contract No. 24-5153)
Memorandum
This resolution authorizes an agreement with MDOT to allow TreeTown Murals LLC to paint a mural on the Watco (Ann Arbor Railroad) bridge over West Huron Street.
On September 18, 2023 City Council approved Resolution R-23-340 to Support the Installation of the "Murals That Bridge" project by Mary Thiefels of TreeTown Murals on Railroad Metal Overpasses and Concrete Underpasses on Huron Street near North First Street and to Authorize an Application for a MDOT Permit.
Related to the project and Resolution R-23-340, the City, TreeTown Murals LLC and Watco Companies, LLC, entered into an Operations and Maintenance Agreement dated February 8, 2024 for the Project.
In addition to the permit for installation, because the project involves Huron Street, a state trunkline highway, the Michigan Department of Transportation requires a separate agreement with the City, as the local agency, regarding performance of the project work and its ongoing operation and maintenance.
Budget/Fiscal Impact: Funding for the project has been secured by TreeTown Murals, and the City is not contributing any funds toward the project. Financial and maintenance obligations under this MDOT agreement are not the City's responsibility according to the separate Operations and Maintenance Agreement between the City, TreeTown Murals, LLC, and Watco Companies, LLC.
