Whereas, The City of Ann Arbor is an incorporated municipality of the State of Michigan and therefore an eligible applicant to apply for the one-time appropriation of Shared Streets and Spaces Grant (SSSG) funding through the Michigan Department of Transportation;
Whereas, City Council has made clear commitments to Vision Zero, A2 Carbon Neutrality, Affordable Housing, and Placemaking;
Whereas, The Fourth Avenue Street and Transit Improvements Project uses innovation and forward-thinking project planning, design, and construction to advance these commitments in a single project, prioritizing equity and accessibility;
Whereas, The City of Ann Arbor has worked across municipal departments and with other agencies and organizations to gain broader agency support and coordination for ease of implementation as desired by the SSSG program goals;
Whereas, The City of Ann Arbor has presented the Project at public meetings and public engagement sessions, and received input directly from those walking, biking, and using transit in this space today, and public feedback has been enthusiastically incorporated into the design plan; and
Whereas, The City of Ann Arbor has shared the Project design plan with the community at large;
RESOLVED, That City Council approves a grant application to the State of Michigan for the Shared Streets and Spaces Grant program for the Project described herein;
RESOLVED, The Fourth Ave Street and Transit Improvements Project is in the City's Capital Improvement Plan, and the project partners (AAATA, DDA, and City) will be responsible for their share of the maintenance; and
