Title
Resolution to Approve the Purchase and Installation of a Traffic Management Center Video Wall System Upgrade with Smart Homes, Inc. (State of Michigan MiDEAL - $148,029.48)
Memorandum
The attached for City Council’s review and action is a resolution approving a purchase order with Smart Homes, Inc. to upgrade the Transportation Department’s Traffic Management Center video wall system through the State of Michigan MiDEAL cooperative purchasing program (MiDEAL #MA240000001076). The upgraded system will provide enhanced video processing capacity, updated monitors, and associated data connections to support the City’s traffic-management operations.
The existing video wall supports monitoring of traffic patterns, live traffic incidents, roadway closures, and congestion, allowing Transportation staff to make signal-timing adjustments and manage traffic effectively. The system is also used during major special events, including University of Michigan football games and concerts, and supports coordination with the Ann Arbor Police Department and the Emergency Operations Center through shared traffic-camera feeds. The existing video wall and processing system have reached their maximum capacity for video feeds, limiting the City’s ability to add traffic cameras and incorporate traffic-signal video-detection feeds. The upgraded system will expand processing capacity, improve operational monitoring, support training and meetings through computer-feed display capability, reduce the physical depth of the video wall, and replace aging monitors.
Smart Homes, Inc. complies with the requirements of the City’s Non-Discrimination Ordinance and Living Wage Ordinance.
Budget/Fiscal Impact: Funding for this purchase is available in the approved Major Streets Fund Transportation budget.
