Title

An Ordinance to Add Chapter 99 (Commercial Vehicle Markings) of Title VII of the Code of the City of Ann Arbor (ORD-26-29)

Memorandum

Use of commercial vehicles for construction work and the provision of other services in the City of Ann Arbor is a matter closely affecting both public safety and the safety of those working on public and private work sites. Commercial vehicles that are clearly marked with business information promote contractor accountability for safety compliance. Due to the high volume of commercial vehicle traffic and public and private work sites in the City of Ann Arbor, it is necessary to regulate markings on commercial vehicles in the City to promote public and worker safety.

The attached proposed ordinance would create a new Chapter 99 within Title VII of the Code of the City of Ann Arbor entitled “Commercial Vehicle Markings.” The proposed ordinance would require certain commercial vehicles to be clearly marked with business and contact information to increase public safety, contractor safety compliance, and contractor accountability.
