The regular session of the Ann Arbor City Council was called to order at 7:36 p.m. in the
City Hall Council Chamber by Mayor Ingrid B. Sheldon.
Council stood for a moment of silence.
Mayor Sheldon led Council in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.

INTRODUCTIONS
FACHHOCHSCHULE, KEHL, GERMANY STUDENT/FACULTY STUDY GROUP
Brigitte Maassen, Co-chair of the Ann Arbor Hospitality Committee, introduced
representatives of the student/faculty study group from Fachhochschule, Kehl, Germany.
The student interns involved in this program work in cooperation with the City of Ann Arbor,
Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan to learn about public
administration in the United States as part of their studies to become civil servants in
Germany.
PUBLIC COMMENTARY - RESERVED TIME
SOL METZ - ABOLITION OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS
Sol Metz, 1750 Fulmer St., spoke in favor of the proposed resolution in support of the
abolition of nuclear weapons. Mr. Metz expressed concern that the production of nuclear
weapons is depriving people of assets which can be used to treat disease, build housing
and grow food. He stated that the mining and storage of uranium used in nuclear weapons
causes environmental damage, creates security problems from accidental or miscalculated

use, encourages the spread of nuclear weapons, and provides targets for terrorists.
DAVID BASSETT - ABOLITION OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS
David Bassett, 1600 Brooklyn Ave., spoke in favor of the proposed resolution in support of
