Resolution Requesting ICE Stay the Deportation of Mohamed Soumah

Body

Whereas, Mohamed Soumah has been a lawful, positive, contributing resident and tax payer of Ann Arbor area for fifteen years;

 

Whereas, Mr. Soumah is the father of two young children, both US citizens;

 

Whereas, Mr. Soumah is facing an order of deportation from the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE);

 

Whereas, According to Mr. Soumah’s physician, he “carries a diagnosis of end-stage renal disease. The patient is dependent on receiving 3 times weekly dialysis treatments Dialysis is a life-preserving treatment for him, therefore if regular dialysis treatments cannot be secured for him he will pass away”;

 

Whereas, Mr. Soumah’s home country of Guinea-Conakry does not have adequate dialysis facilities to ensure he receives these life-saving treatments;

 

Whereas, The Ann Arbor Friends Meeting, with the support of Washtenaw Congregational Sanctuary, has agreed to provide housing for Mr. Soumah so that he may continue to receive his life-saving treatments;

 

RESOLVED, That the City Council of Ann Arbor respectfully seeks that the Detroit Office of Immigration and Customs, or any other capable official, issue a stay of deportation for Mr. Soumah to allow him to continue to receive vital medical treatment not available in his home country.
