Title

Resolution to Approve New Precinct Boundaries to Comply With Ordinance 21-33, The Reapportionment of Wards, due to the 2020 Census

Body

Whereas, The Ann Arbor City Council approved Ordinance 21-33, An Ordinance to Amend Sections 1:451 to 1:455 of Chapter 17, Reapportionment of Wards, of Title I of the Code of the City of Ann Arbor, effective December 1, 2021;

 

Whereas, The City of Ann Arbor Election Commission must finalize all precinct boundary changes in compliance with Ordinance 21-33;

 

Whereas, The reapportionment of the City Wards has shifted voters and boundary lines in all five wards;

 

Whereas, The Michigan Bureau of Elections has requested the City follow best practices in numbering of precincts;

 

Whereas, New County Commissioner, State House and State Senate Districts required shifting existing precinct boundaries to minimize “split precincts” whenever possible; and

 

Whereas, Redistricting has resulted in the elimination of one precinct in Ward 3 and the creation of one new precinct in Ward 4;

 

RESOLVED, That the new precinct voting boundaries indicated on the attached Precinct Maps and Precinct Descriptions be approved;

 

RESOLVED, That the new precinct boundaries as indicated on the attached Precinct Map and Precinct Descriptions be effective immediately;

 

RESOLVED, That the attached polling place assignments and numeric naming of precincts be approved;

 

RESOLVED, That the City Clerk be authorized to take any administrative action necessary to implement this resolution; and

 

RESOLVED, That a certified copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the Washtenaw County Clerk and the Michigan Secretary of State, Bureau of Elections.
