The proposed resolution directs the Planning Commission and City staff to review and prepare amendments to encourage greater opportunity for Accessory Dwelling Units in the City.

Whereas, In 2016, the City enacted revisions to City Code that provided expanded opportunity for the use of Accessory Dwelling Units in the City toward achieving sustainability and affordability goals;
Whereas, After adoption of these ordinance amendments the development of new accessory dwelling units has been unrealized in the City;
Whereas, Public Services has taken steps to amend sewer regulations to provide additional flexibility for the creation of Accessory Dwelling Units;
Whereas, In 2018 the Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority funded a series of workshops about Accessory Dwelling Units presented by Jessica Letaw and Portland design/builder Holly Huntley;
Whereas, These workshops led to a report identifying recommended changes to the Ann Arbor Accessory Dwelling Unit ordinance and related policies; and
Whereas, The City Council seeks to enact additional measures to encourage the development of Accessory Dwelling Units in the City;
RESOLVED, That the City Council directs the City Attorney to develop a model and template deed restriction for use in conformance for with the Accessory Dwelling Unit provisions in the Unified Development Code ordinance by December 31, 2018;
