Proclamation Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Therapaws of Michigan and Recognizing the Volunteers and Therapy Dogs
Memorandum
WHEREAS, Therapaws of Michigan officially became a non-profit organization in 2001, after operating for more than a decade as Therapets; and
WHEREAS, Therapaws has faithfully served Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, and surrounding communities with volunteer handlers and their certified therapy dogs; and
WHEREAS, therapy dog teams provide comfort, emotional support, and meaningful human-animal connection to individuals in hospitals, schools, libraries, extended care facilities, and other care settings; and
WHEREAS, the presence of therapy dogs has been shown to reduce stress, improve mood, and foster a sense of calm and well-being for people of all ages; and
WHEREAS, Therapaws of Michigan volunteers generously give their time, compassion, and commitment to improving the lives of others throughout the community; and
WHEREAS, the organization plays a vital role in promoting kindness, connection, and mental wellness through its outreach and educational efforts; and
WHEREAS, we recognize Therapaws of Michigan and their Alliance of Therapy Dogs-affiliated teams for the profound, lasting impact they make on the communities they serve.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Christopher Taylor, Mayor of Ann Arbor, Michigan, do hereby proclaim April 20, 2026, as Therapaws of Michigan Day in Ann Arbor, in recognition of National Volunteers Awareness Month. I encourage all community members to recognize and thank the volunteers and therapy dogs who bring comfort and joy to so many.
