Title
An Ordinance to Amend Sections 5.15 and 5.16 of Chapter 55 (Unified Development Code) of Title V of the Code of the City of Ann Arbor (General Entertainment Uses) CPC Recommendation: Approval (9 Yes, 0 No)
Memorandum
Approval of this ordinance will amend the Unified Development Code (Chapter 55) to remove specific use standards for General Entertainment Uses. The proposed ordinance modifications were initiated by City Planning in response to a request for the relocation of a pinball parlor into the D1 Downtown Core Zoning District.
Currently, this would not be permissible, as the Unified Development Code restricts such uses only to the C1A Campus Business District, which only includes a small area near the Packard/South State/Hill triangle area. The proposed modifications would eliminate this restriction, allowing such uses in all of the same districts as other General Entertainment Uses. Rather than leaving an additional restriction that theaters located in the C1B Community Convenience Center District be limited to a maximum of 600 seats, staff proposed to eliminate both restrictions.
The Planning Commission unanimously recommended the amendments on February 19, 2025.
