Whereas, The City of Ann Arbor wishes to recognize the City of Lubny, Ukraine to establish greater friendship, meaningful bonds and understanding through cultural exchanges of people of all ages;
Whereas, Ann Arbor through its City Council does recognize and endorse this United States Agency for International Development (USAID) HOVERLA Sister City program with the hope that it will lead to stronger ties, cooperation and shared community between the people of Ann Arbor and Lubny; and
Whereas, The City of Ann Arbor and the City of Lubny, Ukraine desire to collaborate and share expertise in the areas of waste management, emergency management, and development strategy;
RESOLVED, That City Council of the City of Ann Arbor accepts an invitation from the government and people of Lubny to participate with Ann Arbor as its Sister City for the purpose of creating goodwill and understanding between the people of our two great nations;
RESOLVED, That the City of Ann Arbor and City of Lubny shall embrace their Sister City relationship through shared dedication, knowledge and collaboration;
RESOLVED, The Mayor is hereby authorized to act as official representative of Ann Arbor to carry out this Sister City relationship; and
RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution are to be sent to the Mayor and Council of the City of Lubny, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Office of Governance and Local Accountability Activity (HOVERLA), the National League of Cities, the United States Department of State, and the United States Embassy of Ukraine.
