Resolution Denouncing Rising Hate and Discrimination in Ann Arbor and Calling for a Lasting Bilateral Ceasefire in Gaza and Israel

RESOLVED, The Ann Arbor City Council expresses its unwavering support for all Arab, Israeli, Palestinian, Jewish, Muslim, and all other members of the community who are impacted, each of whom has the right to learn, work, worship, gather, advocate, mourn, and celebrate free from intimidation, harassment, doxxing, and fear of violence;

 

RESOLVED, The Ann Arbor City Council condemns all forms of anti-Arab racism, anti-Palestinian racism, antisemitism, and Islamophobia,

 

RESOLVED, The Ann Arbor City Council requests that the Ann Arbor Human Rights Commission engage with affected communities during this crisis, to uphold the enforcement of Chapter 112 of the Non-Discrimination Ordinance, and to educate residents on how to file complaints of discrimination or harassment in our city;

 

RESOLVED, The Ann Arbor City Council calls for an immediate lasting bilateral ceasefire, release of all hostages, and unrestricted humanitarian aid at the levels recommended by the United Nations for the Palestinian people;

 

RESOLVED, The Ann Arbor City Council appreciates and uplifts Congresswoman Debbie Dingell’s November 29th, 2023, statement “Dingell Statement on Combating Rising Hate in U.S., Calling for Release of All Hostages and Bilateral Ceasefire in Gaza and Israel;” and

 

RESOLVED, The Ann Arbor City Council directs the City Administrator to send a copy of this resolution to Congresswoman Dingell, Senator Peters, and Senator Stabenow.
