Resolution Terminating the Local State of Emergency in Response to the April 15, 2026, Tornado

Body

Whereas, On April 15, 2026, Mayor Taylor declared a local state of emergency for an EF-1 tornado that impacted the city;

 

Whereas, On April 17, 2026, Governor Whitmer included the city in the state’s declaration of a state of emergency (No. 2026-8);

 

Whereas, On April 20, 2026, City Council affirmed the declaration of a local state of emergency (R-26-148);

 

Whereas, Since that time, the emergency response and short-term recovery efforts have concluded;

 

Whereas, The City continues to address the damage to Veteran’s Memorial Park and Fire Station 3 through insurance claims; and

 

Whereas, A declared local state of emergency is no longer necessary to manage long-term recovery;

 

RESOLVED, That City Council herby terminates the local state of emergency effective immediately in accordance with City Code, Chapter 15, Section 1.327(3); and

 

RESOLVED, The City’s Office of Emergency Management will continue to coordinate with Michigan State Police Emergency Management Homeland Security while the state’s emergency declaration remains in effect.
