PROCLAMATION
Honoring Carolyn L. Grawi, MSW, LMSW, ACSW, ADAC
January 8, 2018
WHEREAS, Carolyn Grawi has served as an executive leader for the Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living since 2005 and as its Executive Director and CEO since 2014; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn has been recognized as an influential leader with expertise in ADA law, and issues of mobility and accessibility by local and state-level elected officials, the transit authority, hospitals, schools and universities; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn has consulted with elected officials and city administration to select accessible voting devices and provided community-wide training for the Help America Vote Act; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn has served as an Adjunct Lecturer for the University of Michigan School of Social Work (SSW) where she has and continues to teach concepts of social justice, social identity, privilege and oppression to help students gain insights into the realities of individuals living with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn has led Disability Awareness Workshops to more than 14,000 fourth graders in the Ann Arbor Public Schools for which she has earned a Certificate of Appreciation; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn has educated the community about access and inclusion of people with more buses, more places, more often; worked with Parks Department for increased access throughout Ann Arbor including the Universal Access Playground at Gallup Park and provided education and access training for Ann Arbor Summer Festival staff, volunteers and ushers.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Christopher Taylor, Mayor of Ann Arbor, Michigan, do hereby honor Carolyn Grawi and proclaim January 8, 2018, as “Carolyn Grawi Day” in the City of Ann Arbor.
