Resolution to Approve Election Day Vote Centers at Larcom City Hall, University of Michigan Museum of Art, and Duderstadt Center for the November 5, 2024 General Election

Body

Whereas, MCL 168.523b allows cities that process more than 500 election voter registrations in even-year November General Elections to establish Election Day vote centers;

 

Whereas, Since the passage of proposition 2018-3, authorizing same-day voter registration, the City of Ann Arbor has exceeded 500 Election Day registrations in both November 2020 and 2022;

 

Whereas, Absentee ballots are currently issued to voters registering and voting at the City’s satellite offices on Election Day;

 

Whereas, Election Day Vote Centers would provide the opportunity to issue regular ballots to new voters and allow voters to tabulate their own ballots; and

 

Whereas, The Michigan Bureau of Elections has requested that the City pilot an Election Day Vote Center on August 6, 2024;

 

RESOLVED, That the Ann Arbor City Election Commission authorize the City Clerk to convene three Election Day Vote Centers for the November 5 General Election at Ann Arbor City Hall, University of Michigan Museum of Art and U-M Duderstadt Center in accordance with MCL 168.523b;

 

RESOLVED, That the City Clerk be authorized to take all necessary action to implement this Resolution and the Election Day Vote Centers; and

 

RESOLVED, That the City Clerk notify the Washtenaw County Clerk and Secretary of State as required by law.
