Communication from Renters Commission: Resolution in Support of Proposed Ordinance to Amend Section 8:532 of Chapter 105 (Housing Code) of Title VIII (Building Regulations) of the Code of the City of Ann Arbor.

At the January 15, 2026 Renters Commission meeting the Ann Arbor Renters Commission unanimously passed the following resolution:
RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF AMENDING SECTION 8:532 TO CHAPTER 105 (HOUSING CODE) OF TITLE VIII (BUILDING REGULATIONS) OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF ANN ARBOR
WHEREAS, The City of Ann Arbor Renters Commission is committed to supporting legislation that promotes equity in rental housing practices.
WHEREAS, The Ann Arbor City Council has previously identified a need to protect tenants from unreasonable fees associated with rental housing, and passed Section 8:532 to Chapter 105 (Housing Code) of Title VIII in January 2025 to promote equity in rental housing applications (Pre-tenancy fees).
RESOLVED, That the City of Ann Arbor Renters Commission endorses the amendment to Section 8:532 to Chapter 105 of Title VIII in order to provide financial transparency to tenants entering lease agreements.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, That the Ann Arbor Renters Commission supports passage of the proposed amendment to Section 8:532 to Chapter 105 of Title VIII by Ann Arbor City Council to further protect tenants from unequitable Tenancy Fees associated with rental housing.
