Title
An Ordinance to Amend Section 2:63 of Chapter 29 (Water Rates) of Title II of the Code of the City of Ann Arbor (ORD-19-11)
Memorandum
Your approval is requested to amend Section 2:63 of Chapter of Title II of the Code of the City of Ann Arbor to adjust water rates due to increasing operating and maintenance costs and to increase funding for capital improvement projects.
The recommended rate increases in water are projected to generate an additional $1,323,294.00 in revenue. Rate increases of 6% for both the customer charges and volumetric charges enable the City to proceed with planning Water Supply System capital improvements, including the rehabilitation of the 1938 Pre-Treatment Basins at the Water Treatment Plant and many projects in the water distribution system.
For the water portion of a residential customer's utility bill, this 6% increase is approximately $3.77 per quarter or $15.08 per year. The bill calculation is estimated using a customer with a 5/8" meter, using the residential class average of 18 CCF. The bill estimate does not include the 10% early payment discount.
