Resolution to Accept Grant Funds from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy ($57,326.36)
Memorandum
Attached for review and consideration is a resolution to authorize acceptance and appropriation of grant funding from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy ("EGLE") to support the purchasing of an electric forklift. Replacing a diesel forklift with an electric will help reduce NOx, particulate, and diesel emissions, while protecting public health and helping advance our goal of a zero emissions fleet.

The Office of Sustainability and Innovations, with support from Fleet Services and the Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF), submitted this grant to EGLE under the Volkswagen State Mitigation Trust. The total award from the State is $57,326.36 with $24,568.44 in local match (coming from the Fleet Services Fund Operations and Maintenance budget).

In terms of funding, in R-24-249, Council approved the purchase of this forklift coming from the Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) budget (which was transferred to the Fleet Fund). As such, the $57,326.36 awarded by EGLE will be used to reimburse the Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) budget.

Budget/Fiscal Impact: City Council has already authorized the purchase of this electric forklift (R-24-249) with funding coming from the Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF). As such, the $57,326.36 awarded by the State will reimburse the Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF). This means this has a positive budget impact.
