Resolution to Approve the Purchase of Two Tandem Axle Plow/Spreader Dump Trucks from D & K Truck Company (ITB #4458; $410,846.00)

The attached resolution authorizes the purchase of two 2018 Western Star 4700 tandem axle truck chassis and Monroe 13' dump bodies from D & K Truck Company, Lansing, MI for use by the Public Services Area, Streets Maintenance Operations Unit.
The two trucks listed in this resolution will each have stainless steel dump bodies, front mounting snowplows, underbody scrapers and salt spreaders. The City has worked to standardize our plow/spreader trucks over the last few years. This allows for compatibility of front mounted plows, underbody scrapers and salt spreaders which can be interchanged on the large plow trucks used by the Streets Maintenance group. It also allows for a reduction in parts inventory and familiarity of service which means the trucks are out of service for a shorter period of time for maintenance or repair.
Bids were solicited for the two plow/spreader dump trucks through ITB #4458 issued by the City and opened on November 3, 2016. Of the two responses received, D & K Truck Company, Lansing, MI, was selected as the most responsive proposal to the ITB.
The price for each truck is $182,985.00 and includes a pre-wet system, electronic spreader controls, pneulogic joystick plow controller, hydraulic system, automatic greasing system and safety lighting. The cost of the underbody scraper is $9,713.00; the front mounted snowplow is $8,496.00; and the salt spreader is $4,229.00. The total price for each truck, including the front plow, underbody scraper and salt spreader, is $205,423.00.
These two trucks will replace two existing plow/spreader trucks.
