Resolution to Approve the Purchase of Two Dual-Arm Automated Side-Loading Refuse Trucks from Fredrickson Supply, LLC. (Sourcewell - $756,560.26)

This resolution authorizes the purchase of 2 2020 Autocar ACX64 truck chassis with Labrie Expert 31-yard packer bodies and Dual Helping Hand reach arms at $378,280.13 each for a total cost of $756,560.26 from Fredrickson Supply, LLC ("FSL") for use by the Public Services Area, Public Works Unit.
Labrie Enviroquip was awarded Contract Number 112014-LEG by the Sourcewell cooperative purchasing program for refuse trucks and FSL is the dealer of record for Labrie Enviroquip in the State of Michigan.
These trucks have dual arm units for residential refuse collection. The arms extend from the truck to grab and empty carts. The arms are joystick controlled from the cab of the truck, which allows for a single operator on each collection route. The dual arms, one on each side of the truck, allow a single operator to collect refuse on both sides of the narrower residential streets in a single pass.
A vehicle listed in this resolution will replace a 2014 Mack chassis with a Labrie packer body (#8642) with 10,373 hours of operation. Over its service life the total repair cost of the vehicle has exceeded 85% of its original purchase price.

These trucks have reached their life expectancy. There are a number of significant costly repairs that are anticipated if these units are kept in service. These include an engine replacement, at a cost of $15,000.00 to $20,000.00, the rebuild/replacement of each automated arm, at a cost of $20,000.00 to $25,000.00 per arm, a packer rebuild and transmission replacement.
