Title
Resolution to Approve the Sale of Surplus Equipment
Memorandum
The attached resolution authorizes the sale of two pieces of equipment that have been deemed as surplus property by the City. Section 1:319 of the City Code of Ordinances states that “Personal property with a value in excess of $25,000.00 may be sold by auction, trade-in or after advertising and receiving competitive bids, as provided in section 1:313 and after approval of the sale has been given by the Council.”
Surplus City vehicles and equipment are sold through public auctions, either online or in-person. While the true value of the equipment will be determined through the auction process, and there is no assurance that the equipment will reach the $25,000.00 amount, staff is requesting Council approval of the sale in advance of the auction in case a bid amount exceeds that threshold. Council approval is normally given as part of the resolution to purchase the replacement for the outgoing equipment. In this particular case, the two pieces of equipment are not being replaced.
The first item is a John Deere 544J wheel loader (#8971) used in the City’s Solid Waste operations. This piece of equipment has 15,166 hours of use and is in very poor condition. The second item is a John Deere 544K wheel loader (#8970) used in the City’s Solid Waste operations. This piece of equipment has 11,077 hours of use and is in very poor condition.
Proceeds from the sale of these surplus items will be made to the Solid Waste Fund.
