Resolution to Accept a Fair Food Network Grant for the Ann Arbor Farmers Market for $60,000.00 and Appropriate Funds (8 Votes Required)

Memorandum

Attached for your review and action is a resolution to approve an agreement with Fair Food Network (FFN) to administer the Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB) program at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market and to accept and appropriate a total of $60,000.00 in funding into the Major Grants Fund.

DUFB is a national program providing incentives to facilitate better fresh food access for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients. The program directly benefits low-income families and local farmers alike while positively impacting future food and nutrition policy. The DUFB program provides a match of up to $20 per person per day to those customers using SNAP to purchase locally grown fruit, vegetables, herbs, and food plants at Michigan farmers markets.

Participation in this program relates closely to multiple Sustainability Goals:

                     Engaged Community

                     Human Services

                     Economic Vitality

                     Local Food

Since 2010, the City of Ann Arbor has received grant funding from the FFN to administer the DUFB program at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market. This grant provides a total of $60,000.00 to the City of Ann Arbor to administer the Double Up Food Bucks program.

The Park Advisory Commission unanimously recommended approval of this agreement at their May 19, 2024 meeting.
