Resolution to Appoint Andre Anderson as the City of Ann Arbor Police Chief
Memorandum
The attached resolution provides for the appointment of Andre Anderson as the Ann Arbor Police Chief, effective upon successful approval of all background history and requirements.
Andre Anderson most recently was the Executive Assistant Police Chief in Tempe, Arizona (2021-2023). He previously served as Executive Deputy Chief in Rochester, New York (2020-2021) and prior to that, as a commander in Glendale, Arizona. (2012-2020). Anderson has a bachelor's degree in public safety administration and a master's degree in educational leadership. Andre Anderson is highly qualified to serve as Police Chief and is recommended by the City Administrator to assume the role of Ann Arbor Police Chief effective upon successful approval of all background history and requirements.

Whereas, Andre Anderson has been selected by the City Administrator as the successful candidate for the position of Ann Arbor Chief of Police after a national search and through a selection process with participation from a wide range of individuals, including community members, public officials, and City staff;
Whereas, Section 12.1(b) of the Ann Arbor City Charter provides that the Police Chief shall be appointed by the City Council on recommendation of the City Administrator; and
Whereas, Andre Anderson is highly qualified to serve and is recommended to Council by the City Administrator for appointment as Ann Arbor’s Police Chief;
RESOLVED, That City Council does hereby appoint Andre Anderson as the City of Ann Arbor Police Chief, effective upon successful approval of all background history and requirements; and
RESOLVED, That City Council directs the City Administrator to take all the necessary steps to effect this transition.
