Title

Resolution to Approve the 2027 Washtenaw Area Mutual Aid Council Budget

Memorandum

In 2024 via Resolution R-24-004, the City of Ann Arbor voted to become a member of the Washtenaw Area Mutual Aid Council (WAMAC). This replaced the former Washtenaw County Mutual Aid Association. WAMAC serves to provide countywide mutual aid for fire and EMS incidents in addition to operation of the countywide Technical Rescue Team.

Governor Whitmer approved the formation of WAMAC under the Urban Cooperation Act, MCL 124.501 et seq July 2025. The articles of incorporation require each participating municipality to adopt the annual budget.

Budget/Fiscal Impact: The Ann Arbor Fire Department’s annual dues for participation in WAMAC are $1,000.00. The fire department has budgeted for this as part of the FY2027 Fire Services budget.
