Resolution Recognizing Children’s Literacy Network as a Civic Nonprofit Organization Operating in Ann Arbor for the Purpose of Obtaining a Charitable Gaming License

Memorandum

To obtain a charitable gaming license under Michigan law, a nonprofit organization is required to submit a resolution from its local governing body recognizing it as a community-based organization.

 

Children’s Literacy Network is a 501(c)3 civic nonprofit agency that is designing and implementing literacy-based programs to provide equitable opportunities for children to develop a love of reading and books. Children’s Literacy Network accomplishes this mission through innovative programming at the early childhood and school-age levels.

 

Passage of the attached resolution will allow Children’s Literacy Network to hold a raffle on September 25, 2024, at 400 N. River St., Ypsilanti, MI 48198. Passage of this resolution is required in order to obtain final approval from the Charitable Gaming Division of the Bureau of State Lottery for this event and any future events.

Whereas, P.A. 382 of 1972, as amended, requires that local civic nonprofit organizations be recognized by resolution adopted by the local governmental subdivision in which the organization conducts its principal activities and that a copy of said resolution be filed with any application for a license to conduct a bingo, raffle or charity game(s);

 

Whereas, Children’s Literacy Network has requested that it be recognized as a nonprofit organization operating in the community for the purpose of obtaining a charitable gaming license; and

 

Whereas, Children’s Literacy Network is a local civic nonprofit organization as defined by P.A. 382 of 1972, as amended, which should be recognized for providing equitable opportunities for children to develop a love of reading;

 

RESOLVED, That City Council hereby approve recognition of the Children’s Literacy Network as a local civic nonprofit organization operating in the Ann Arbor community for the purposes of its charitable gaming license application as required by P.A. 382 of 1972, as amended; and

 

RESOLVED, That the City Clerk be directed to provide a certified copy of this Resolution to Children’s Literacy Network and to take all necessary administrative actions to provide notice of this Resolution to the Charitable Gaming Division, Michigan Department of Treasury.
