Resolution to Approve the Purchase of a John Deere Wheel Loader from AIS Construction Equipment Corp. (MiDeal - $278,241.62)
Memorandum
The attached resolution authorizes the purchase of one John Deere model 544P Wheel Loader with accessories for a total cost of $278,241.62 through the State of Michigan MiDeal cooperative purchasing contract #240000000158 for use by the Public Services Area, Public Works Unit, Streets Operations.
The loader listed in this resolution will replace an existing 2016 John Deere model 544k Wheel Loader (#4774) with 5,051 hours of use and is beyond its useful life with repair costs increasing every year. The Public Works Unit uses this loader in its streets department to repair and maintain the City’s roads.
There is currently no full electric option for equipment this size.
AIS Construction Equipment Corp., New Hudson, Michigan was awarded contract #240000000158 by the State of Michigan MiDeal cooperative purchasing program for Construction Equipment.
AIS Construction Equipment Corp. complies with the requirements of the City’s Conflict of Interest and Non-Discrimination Ordinances.
Budget/Fiscal Impact: Adequate funding for the purchase of this equipment is available in the FY2026 Fleet Services Fund Operations and Maintenance budget.
This new loader will be placed on an 8-year replacement schedule which is consistent with other equipment of this size. Public Works will have an annual replacement cost of approximately $46,248.00.
Green Fleet Policy: The Green Fleet Committee approved the need for the replacement of this equipment, that the proposed replacement is consistent with the Green Fleet Policy and recommended the approval of this resolution. The Sustainability and Innovations Manager has concurred with the actions of the Committee.

Whereas, The Fleet & Facilities Unit needs to purchase a replacement wheel loader for the City’s fleet;
Whereas, Competitive bids were received by the State of Michigan MiDeal cooperative purchasing program and AIS Construction Equipment Corp., New Hudson, MI, was the lowest responsive bidder under contract #240000000158 for Construction Equipment;
Whereas, AIS Construction Equipment Corp. complies with the requirements of the City’s Conflict of Interest and Non-Discrimination Ordinances; and
Whereas, Adequate funds for the purchase of this new street sweeper are available in the approved FY2026 Fleet Services Fund Operations and Maintenance budget;
RESOLVED, That the City Council approves the issuance of a purchase order to AIS Construction Equipment Corp. for one John Deere model 544P Wheel Loader in the amount of $278,241.62;
RESOLVED, That funds for the purchase of this equipment come from the FY2026 Fleet Services Fund Operations and Maintenance budget with funds to be available without regard to fiscal year;
RESOLVED, That the equipment being replaced (# 4774) be sold at the next City vehicle auction held after the equipment is removed from service; and
RESOLVED, That the City Administrator be authorized to take the necessary actions to implement this resolution.
