Memorandum
The City Clerk’s Office has been notified by the Ann Arbor Public Schools staff that eight buildings regularly used for Election Day polling places will not be available on August 2 due to ongoing renovation and construction work at these locations. These eight locations, Community High, Clague Middle School, Tappan Middle School, Scarlett Middle School, Pittsfield Elementary, Bach Elementary, Eberwhite Elementary and Forsythe Middle School regularly host eleven precincts. In consultation with AAPS, all locations were moved to a nearby public-school building, with the exception of the two precincts at Community High School, which were relocated to nearby Hands-On Museum. Scarlett Middle School voters are again temporarily housed at Mitchell Elementary, which was also utilized for the November 2021 Special Election.
Location changes are as follows:
1-2 and 1-3: Community High to Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum - 220 E. Ann St.
2-18: Clague Middle School to Thurston Elementary - 2300 Prairie St.
3-24: Tappan Middle School to Burns Park Elementary - 1414 Wells St.
3-27, 3-29 and 3-30: Scarlett and Pittsfield to Mitchell Elementary - 3550 Pittsview Dr.
5-43: Bach Elementary to Pioneer High School - 601 W. Stadium Blvd.
5-47: Eberwhite to Slauson Middle School - 1019 W. Washington
5-52 and 5-53: Forsythe Middle School to Ann Arbor Open - 920 Miller Ave.
It is expected that all affected voters will be able to return to their usual polling place on November 8, 2022.
Pursuant to Michigan Election Law, City Council approval is required for a polling place location change, which occurs less than 60 days prior to an election due to unforeseen circumstances, such as “….because a polling place has been damaged, destroyed, or rendered inaccessible or otherwise unusable as a polling place.”
Upon approval by City Council, the City Clerk’s Office will begin promotion of the temporary change, such as press releases, website posting, social media, etc. Signage will also be posted at entrances to all affected locations alerting voters of the change.
The City Clerk’s Office is requesting that City Council authorize the City Clerk and the City Administrator to take any necessary action to implement this resolution.
