Resolution to Approve Street Closing for the UM Show Your Love A2 Party on Sunday, September 15, 2024 from 6:00 AM until 6:00 PM

Attached for your consideration is a resolution to approve the closing of State Street from William to North University on Sunday, September 15, 2024 from 6:00 AM until 6:00 PM for the UM Show Your Love A2 Party. The actual event takes place from Noon until 4:00 PM with the additional time to be used for set-up and breakdown of the event. This will be the second year for this event which was very successful in 2023. The applicants, the State Street District and the University of Michigan are partnering with the Kerrytown District Association and the Main Street Area Association for this community event. The University is offering discounts and giveaways for students and staff. One of the goals for this event is to introduce the three downtown business districts, and the greater downtown itself, to the UM student community and the individual and distinctive businesses in these areas by raising awareness of the importance of supporting local businesses. The footprint of the downtown restaurant/retail closures will also be utilized for this event.
Attractions will include musical entertaining at each venue, jugglers/street performers at key intersections, glass blowing demonstrations and trivia contests.
Notification of the street closings will be provided through the City’s website and GovDelivery, University of Michigan Communications and the District Associations websites.

Whereas, The City has received a request from the State Street District and University of Michigan to close State Street between William and North University from 6:00 AM until 6:00 PM for the UM Show Your Love A2 Party on Sunday, September 15, 2024;
Whereas, The street closure will be signed, barricaded and properly supervised by the sponsor;
Whereas, The sponsor agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the streets and will reimburse the City for all event expenses; and
Whereas, Notification of the street closings will be provided through the City’s website and GovDelivery and the applicant’s communication with neighboring businesses;
RESOLVED, That Council approve the closing of State Street from William to North University on Sunday, September 15, 2024 from 6:00 AM until 6:00 PM for the UM Show Your Love A2 Party.
