Resolution Recognizing Ann Arbor Women’s Group as a Civic Nonprofit Organization Operating in Ann Arbor for the Purpose of Obtaining a Charitable Gaming License

Memorandum

To obtain a charitable gaming license under Michigan law, a nonprofit organization is required to submit a resolution from its local governing body recognizing it as a community-based organization.

 

Ann Arbor Women’s Group is a 501(c)3 civic nonprofit agency that is a dedicated and passionate charitable organization committed to creating opportunities for women recovering from alcohol and drug addiction to develop and sustain a healthy, sober lifestyle. The organization provides workshops, fun events, and an annual retreat.

 

Passage of the attached resolution will allow Ann Arbor Women’s Group to hold a 50/50 and raffle on February 16, 2025, and August 2, 2025, at Weber’s Restaurant, 3050 Jackson Ave, Ann Arbor, MI 48103 and Lake Huron Retreat Center, 8794 Lakeshore Rd, Burtchville Township, MI 48059. Passage of this resolution is required in order to obtain final approval from the Charitable Gaming Division of the Bureau of State Lottery for these events and any future events.

Whereas, P.A. 382 of 1972, as amended, requires that local civic nonprofit organizations be recognized by resolution adopted by the local governmental subdivision in which the organization conducts its principal activities and that a copy of said resolution be filed with any application for a license to conduct a bingo, raffle or charity game(s);

 

Whereas, Ann Arbor Women’s Group has requested that it be recognized as a nonprofit organization operating in the community for the purpose of obtaining a charitable gaming license; and

 

Whereas, Ann Arbor Women’s Group is a local civic nonprofit organization as defined by P.A. 382 of 1972, as amended, which should be recognized for creating opportunities for women recovering from alcohol and drug addiction to develop and sustain a healthy, sober lifestyle;

 

RESOLVED, That City Council hereby approve recognition of the Ann Arbor Women’s Group as a local civic nonprofit organization operating in the Ann Arbor community for the purposes of its charitable gaming license application as required by P.A. 382 of 1972, as amended; and

 

RESOLVED, That the City Clerk be directed to provide a certified copy of this Resolution to Ann Arbor Women’s Group and to take all necessary administrative actions to provide notice of this Resolution to the Charitable Gaming Division, Michigan Department of Treasury.
