Hospitality Committee
Established on March 19, 1984 by Resolution No. R-127-3-84
Updated By-Laws were approved by Council June 6, 1994.

Purpose
To assist the Mayor's Office and the City Council in development, maintenance and enhancement of Ann Arbor's Sister City relationships in order to foster communications and global understanding; to evaluate potential Sister City relationships and make appropriate recommendations to City Council; to establish and maintain ongoing relationships with appropriate hospitality groups including but not limited to those operated by the University of Michigan, the Ann Arbor Area Chamber of Commerce, the Ann Arbor Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Ann Arbor Public Schools so as to utilize all available resources without duplicating efforts, and act as liaison between the Mayor's Office and these groups; to assist groups of foreign visitors in making contact with those groups in Ann Arbor with whom they share common interests and to arrange and host official functions for foreign visitors on behalf of the Mayor and City Council.

Special Qualifications for Appointment
Membership is open to anyone in the area.

Length of Terms
2 years - Members are nominated by the Mayor and approved by City Council in January of even-numbered years. All appointments are for a period of 2 years but members may serve longer by reappointment. Vacancies resulting from removals of resignations shall be filled by appointment by the Ann Arbor City Council for the remainder of the unexpired term.

Meeting Times and Frequency
Regular meetings of the Committee are held at least once every 2 months, at a time and place determined by the Chair or Co-chair, in consultation with the Committee. Members shall be informed in writing of the date, time, place and agenda for each regular meeting at least 5 days in advance. Special meetings may be called by the Chair or Co-Chair on an as-needed basis. Members will be informed of the meeting at least 3 days in advance.

Membership / Committee Composition
Composed of members of the community including representation from the University of Michigan, and the Ann Arbor Public Schools, the Ann Arbor Area Chamber of Commerce, the Ann Arbor Convention and Visitors Bureau, People to People International, Washtenaw Community College business, the arts, the City Council and other interested citizens and organizations.
