Memorandum
To obtain a charitable gaming license under Michigan law, a nonprofit organization is required to submit a resolution from its local governing body recognizing it as a community-based organization.

Project Fortitude, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that promotes and encourages intellectual, cultural, and moral standards for members of the African American community, focusing on youth, seniors and the homeless, through activities and programs that promote these ideals.

Passage of the attached resolution will allow Project Fortitude, Inc. to hold a Poker tournament and raffles at Roundtree Bar and Grill, located at 2203 Ellsworth Rd., in Ypsilanti, Michigan, January 24 through January 27, 2012; the Heidelberg, located at 215 N. Main St., April 10 through April 13, 2012; and the Ann Arbor Community Center, located at 625 N. Main from June 15, 2012 and July 13, 2013. Passage of this resolution is required in order to obtain final approval from the Charitable Gaming Division of the Bureau of State Lottery for this event and any future events.

Whereas, P.A. 382 of 1972, as amended, requires that local civic nonprofit organizations be recognized by resolution adopted by the local governmental subdivision in which the organization conducts its principal activities and that a copy of said resolution be filed with any application for a license to conduct a bingo, raffle or charity game(s);

Whereas, Project Fortitude, Inc. has requested that it be recognized as a nonprofit organization operating in the community for the purpose of obtaining a charitable gaming license; and
