Memorandum
Attached for your consideration is a resolution to approve the closing of certain streets for the Ready Set Fly 5K on Saturday, May 21, 2011 from 8:45 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.

The Skyline High School health and medicine magnet class has partnered with Champions for Charity to put together a community race to help fight childhood obesity and its complications. Proceeds benefit Project Healthy Schools at the University of Michigan. The Skyline class of Juniors has been involved in organizing the race from start to finish, all while learning about the human body and how it functions with aspects such as health care and the medicine field. The event is open to all runners, walkers, wheelers and strollers of all ages.

The race is scheduled to begin at 9:00 A.M. and end by 11:00 A.M. The following streets are scheduled to be closed from 8:45 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. but will be reopened as soon as safely possible after participants have cleared the affected areas.

Timber Trail from Skyline High School to Newport Creek Dr
Newport Creek Dr from Timber Trail to Tall Oaks Dr
Tall Oaks Dr from Newport Creek Dr to Oak Hills Dr
Oak Hills Dr from Tall Oaks Dr to Skyline High School

The sponsor agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the streets, and will reimburse the City for all event expenses.

Notification of the street closings will be provided through the City’s website.

The event has been coordinated with all relevant City service areas for the purposes of traffic control and for the protection of the health and safety of the participants and the general public.
