Resolution to Approve Street Closings for the Tour de Kids Competitive Bike Race - Sunday, June 19, 2011
Memorandum
Attached for your consideration is a resolution to approve the closing of certain streets for the Tour de Kids Competitive Bike Race on June 19, 2011. This event, sponsored by Michigan Heart & Vascular and Ellen Thompson Womens Clinic, is intended as a great way for families to spend time together, getting outdoors and playing in the sun. The event will be a combination of bike races, games, safety instruction, music and good food.
The event will require closing of the following streets on Sunday, June 19, 2011:
Ø From 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM:
· S. University Ave. from S. State Street to Church Street
· E. University Ave. from S. University Ave. to Willard
· Tappan Ave. from Monroe Street to S. University Ave.
· Willard Street from E. University Ave. to S. Forest Ave.
Ø From 7:30 AM to Noon:
· Church Street from S. University Ave. to Geddes
· Geddes from Church Street to N. University
· Eastbound side of N. University from Geddes to State Street
· State Street from E. Liberty to E. Madison
The applicant agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the streets, and will reimburse the City for all event expenses.
Notification of the street closings will be provided through the City’s website.
This event has been coordinated with all relevant City service areas for the purposes of traffic control and for the protection of the health and safety of the participants and the general public.
