Resolution to Consider a Letter of Support for Washtenaw County’s Grant Application to the Michigan Trust Fund
Memorandum
Attached for your review and action is a resolution to consider providing a letter of support for Washtenaw County’s grant application to the Michigan Trust Fund to request matching funds for the acquisition of a property in Ann Arbor Township.

The acquisition of the property, owned by DF Land Development, supports two of the primary goals of the Ann Arbor Greenbelt Program - protecting critical natural features surrounding the City of Ann Arbor and the Huron River watershed, and building large blocks of protected land. The 54-acre parcel is adjacent to the City - owned Marshall Nature Area, and provides a connector to land owned by the University of Michigan (Horner McLaughin Woods) and Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation (Goodrich Preserve). Connecting these properties would be of significant value to the public, offering the opportunity for an extensive trail system covering almost 300 acres.

The Greenbelt Advisory Commission recommended to City Council to consider providing a letter of support for Washtenaw County’s grant application to the Michigan Trust Fund at its March 9, 2011 meeting.

In addition, interest in preserving the DF Land Development property has been expressed by other organizations, including Ann Arbor Township and Huron River Watershed Council.
