Resolution Recognizing Ann Arbor Open Coordinating Council (AAOCC) as a Civic Nonprofit Organization Operating in Ann Arbor for the Purpose of Obtaining a Charitable Gaming License
Memorandum
To obtain a charitable gaming license under Michigan law, a nonprofit organization is required to submit a resolution from its local governing body recognizing it as a community-based organization.

Ann Arbor Open Coordinating Council is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides support for educational materials, educational events, and educational field trips for Ann Arbor Open School students.

Passage of the attached resolution will allow AAOCC to hold a raffle in April 2011 at Ann Arbor Open School. Passage of this resolution is required in order to obtain final approval from the Charitable Gaming Division of the Bureau of State Lottery for this event and any future events.

Whereas, P.A. 382 of 1972, as amended, requires that local civic nonprofit organizations be recognized by resolution adopted by the local governmental subdivision in which the organization conducts its principal activities and that a copy of said resolution be filed with any application for a license to conduct a bingo, raffle or charity game(s);

Whereas, Ann Arbor Open Coordinating Council (AAOCC) has requested that it be recognized as a nonprofit organization operating in the community for the purpose of obtaining a charitable gaming license; and

Whereas, AAOCC is a local civic nonprofit organization as defined by P.A. 382 of 1972, as amended, which should be recognized for its efforts to support educational events and field trips for Ann Arbor Open School students;

RESOLVED, That City Council hereby approve recognition of Ann Arbor Open Coordinating Council as a local civic nonprofit organization operating in the Ann Arbor community for the purposes of its charitable gaming license application as required by P.A. 382 of 1972...
