Solid Waste Regulations for Single Stream Recycling
Memorandum
Attached for your review are proposed amendments to the Solid Waste Regulations as enabled by Section 2:10 of Chapter 26 of the City Code. These regulations shall take effect 30 days after being filed with the City Clerk unless modified or disapproved by the city council. These will be filed with the City Clerk on July 7, 2010.
These amendments deal primarily with the following issues:
· Definition of the materials that can be recycled under the new single stream recycling program
· Clarification of container requirements under the new single stream recycling program
· Addition of certain paper products to the compost program
· Transition of fall leaf collection from street to curbside
Staff met with the Washtenaw County Apartment Association and also worked with the Ann Arbor Area Chamber of Commerce to solicit their feedback on these issues.
