Resolution to Modify Athletic Field Rental Fees at Fuller and Olson Parks Effective for 2010 Season
Memorandum
Attached for your review and approval is a resolution to approve athletic field rental fees at Fuller and Olson Parks effective for the 2010 season.

Fuller and Olson fields have recently undergone a large scale renovation and restoration project totaling $1,135,456 in an effort to create premiere athletic fields in the City of Ann Arbor.

As part of this project, an Athletic Field Task Force was created by PAC in May, 2008 to help provide feedback and recommendations for the management of these newly renovated fields.  The Task Force consists of City Staff in Project Management, Field Operations, and Parks & Recreation Services and members of the Parks Advisory Commission.  The Task Force has met regularly over the past 1½ years to review construction progress and help determine best practices for maintenance, scheduling, user cost, and management of these fields.

In February, 2009 all current user groups were provided information on the field renovation project and were also made aware that a rental fee increase would most likely be implemented for the upcoming 2010 season.

Current user groups were notified in early January, 2010 of the proposed rental fees as well as changes in the scheduling of the fields for the upcoming season.  User groups were also notified that the new proposed fees would be presented to PAC on January 19, 2010 to provide them an opportunity for public comment.

While there are proposed athletic field rental fee increases for Fuller and Olson Parks, the athletic field rental rate at all other City parks will remain the same.  Parks such as Allmendinger, South East Area and Buhr Park have field space available for rent throughout the spring, summer and fall seasons should a user group not wish to pay the higher fees for higher quality fields at Fuller and Olson Parks.

The Park Advisory Commission unanimously recommended approval of these fee increases at their January 19, 2010 meeting.
