Title
DDA to Create a Special Events/Busy Evening Parking Rate
Memorandum
This memo is to notify City Council that the DDA will be instituting a new $5 pre-pay entry rate at various parking structures and lots. The primary purpose behind this is to give the DDA's parking operator a mechanism to use when it is anticipated that a large concert or other big event is likely to create a problem in the facilities when hundreds of patrons want to exit at the same time. Even with every cashier booth staffed, after a big event it can take many minutes to move all vehicles through the line, which can be frustrating for parking patrons impatiently sitting in a long line to pay. This pre-pay process is already in place during Art Fair and will be expanded for use more broadly during the year. A secondary purpose behind this rate is to provide a solution at parking facilities with automated equipment where patrons are recurrently breaking exit gates rather than paying to park.
It is anticipated that this pre-pay rate will be in effect in 60 days. Information on this proposed new parking rate has been provided to local media and will also be advertised in a newspaper of local circulation. Proper signage will be posted at the parking facility when the rate will be used.
