The attached resolution authorizes the purchase of five 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup trucks at $37,790.00 each and one 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning (extended range battery) electric pickup truck at $51,635.00 for a total of $240,585.00 from Signature Ford, Owosso Michigan.

The Fleet and Facilities Unit establishes a replacement schedule for each class of vehicle purchased by the City. Once a vehicle hits the preset age, we use a two step evaluation process to determine which vehicles are actually replaced. That process has been completed for FY22 and all vehicles being replaced have been approved by Council.

The group of vehicles included in this resolution are being targeted for replacement to support multiple sustainability efforts approved by City Council. All six vehicles being replaced will be fully depreciated in FY23 when we expect these replacements to be delivered. These six vehicles were targeted for several reasons. A few pickup truck replacements were deferred earlier in FY22 because the electric pickup truck market was just beginning to emerge. Longer delivery times are expected on all new vehicles, especially electric vehicles, because of current market pressures. The electric pickup truck market is in its infancy and available vehicles have limited functionality. Matching these vehicle limitations to the City's operational needs allows for a small pool of replacements. As an example, new electric pickup truck manufacturers (Ford, GM, Rivian) are only producing crew cab trucks with short boxes (5'- 6' long) and no snow plowing capabilities. This is not expected to change for several years so most of the City's operational needs for pickup trucks will not be met with electric vehicles for some time.
