Resolution to Approve the Employment Agreement with Atleen Kaur as City Attorney

Whereas, The Charter of the City of Ann Arbor requires the City Council to hire the City Attorney;
Whereas, The City Attorney is one of two positions directly reporting to the City Council and, as attorney and counsel for the City, it is a position integral to the proper functioning and governance of the City;
Whereas, On November 1, 2021, by Resolution the City Council directed that the Mayor negotiate a proposed employment agreement with Atleen Kaur and bring this agreement back to the City Council for approval;
Whereas, The Mayor has completed the negotiation process and now brings forward the attached agreement for approval by the City Council; and
Whereas, Atleen Kaur is prepared to sign the attached employment agreement and begin as Ann Arbor City Attorney on April 11, 2022;
RESOLVED, That the attached employment agreement with Atleen Kaur is approved and the Mayor, City Clerk and City Attorney are authorized to sign the agreement.
