Resolution to Establish a Sandwich Sign Board Task Force

Whereas, Concerns have been expressed that the City's policies and enforcement regarding sandwich sign boards need to be examined, including placement in the public right of way so as not to block pedestrian use of the sidewalks; and
Whereas, The fee assigned by the City for these signs must also be examined so that this use of sidewalk is in keeping with the City fees for cafes and vendor carts.
Resolved, that City Council creates a Sandwich Sign Board Task Force to review the existing City policies associated with these signs placed in the public right of way, to frame recommendations for more effective placement and size regulations, and more appropriate fees. Said task force shall return a recommendation to Council by December 7, 2009 and will consist of:
Two Downtown Merchant Association representatives
One member of the DDA
One member of the general public
One member of Council
One member of the Sign Board of Appeals
One member of the Commission on Disability Issues
Members of City staff to assist
