Resolution Recognizing The Michigan Theater Foundation of Ann Arbor as a Civic Nonprofit Organization Operating in Ann Arbor for the Purpose of Obtaining a Charitable Gaming License
Memorandum
To obtain a charitable gaming license under Michigan law, a nonprofit organization is required to submit a resolution from its local governing body recognizing it as a community-based organization.
The Michigan Theater of Ann Arbor is a 501(c)3 civic nonprofit organization that seeks to bring the community together through entertainment, the arts and public story telling. Their mission includes preserving their historic buildings, bringing together diverse populations, and collaborating with the local performing arts community to educate and entertain people of all ages.
Passage of the attached resolution will allow The Michigan Theater Foundation of Ann Arbor to hold a raffle drawing at the Michigan Theater, 603 E. Liberty Street, on February 9, 2021. Passage of this resolution is required in order to obtain final approval from the Charitable Gaming Division of the Bureau of State Lottery for this event and any future events.

Whereas, P.A. 382 of 1972, as amended, requires that local civic nonprofit organizations be recognized by resolution adopted by the local governmental subdivision in which the organization conducts its principal activities and that a copy of said resolution be filed with any application for a license to conduct a bingo, raffle or charity game(s);
Whereas, The Michigan Theater Foundation of Ann Arbor has requested that it be recognized as a nonprofit organization operating in the community for the purpose of obtaining a charitable gaming license; and
Whereas, The Michigan Theater Foundation of Ann Arbor is a local civic nonprofit organization as defined by P.A. 382 of 1972, as amended, which should be recognized for its promotion of theater and the arts and its mission to educate and entertain people of all ages;
RESOLVED, That City Council hereby approve recognition of The Michigan Theater Foundation of Ann Arbor as a local civic nonprofit organization operating in the Ann Arbor community for the purposes of its charitable gaming license application as required by P.A. 382 of 1972, as amended; and
RESOLVED, That the City Clerk be directed to provide a certified copy of this Resolution to The Michigan Theater Foundation of Ann Arbor and to take all necessary administrative actions to provide notice of this Resolution to the Charitable Gaming Division, Michigan Department of Treasury.
