Resolution to Approve Closing William between S. Fifth and Thompson Streets and S. Division between William and Jefferson Streets for the William Street Bikeway Grand Opening on Sunday, October 27, 2019 from 12:00 Noon until 5:00 PM
Memorandum
Attached for your consideration is a resolution to approve the closing of William Street between S. Fifth and Thompson Streets and Division between William and Jefferson Streets. The closures will take place from 12:00 Noon on Sunday, October 27, 2019 until 5:00 PM. The event itself will take place from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. The additional time is requested for set-up prior to and cleanup following the event.

The applicant, the Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority (DDA), is holding this special event to celebrate the culmination of the William Street Bikeway Project which started earlier this year. This will be the City's first protected bikeway from the Old West Side to and through Downtown Ann Arbor. It allows bikers of all abilities to feel comfortable and safe and builds connections to portions of the Treeline Trail. This celebration will be fun for the entire family and includes a bike rodeo, games and other activities, as well as the official ribbon-cutting.

The DDA will work with City Police to assist in ensuring that residents along the proposed closure of Division will be able to safely navigate to and from their homes.

The applicant agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the street and will reimburse the City for all event expenses.

Notification of the closures will be provided through the DDA and the City's websites and GovDelivery.
