Resolution to Appoint Michael Pettigrew as the City of Ann Arbor City Treasurer
Memorandum
The attached resolution provides for the appointment of Michael Pettigrew as the Ann Arbor City Treasurer, effective August 19, 2019.
Mr. Pettigrew is currently serving as the Interim City Treasurer and participated in a recruiting process that included outside candidates. Mr. Pettigrew has served as the City’s Deputy Treasurer (Assistant Treasury Services Manager) since September 2008, and was recommended to be Treasurer from the recruiting process.
Staff recommends that Mr. Pettigrew be appointed the permanent City Treasurer.

Whereas, Matthew Horning, City Treasurer retired and resigned his position at the close of business on July 9, 2019;
Whereas, Michael Pettigrew subsequently served as the Interim City Treasurer;
Whereas, Section 12:1(b) of the Ann Arbor City Charter provides that the City Treasurer shall be appointed by the City Council on recommendation of the City Administrator;
Whereas, Michael Pettigrew is highly qualified to serve as Ann Arbor’s City Treasurer; and
Whereas, The City Administrator approved this resolution and hereby gives his recommendation to City Council that Mr. Pettigrew be appointed as the City Treasurer.
RESOLVED, That City Council does hereby appoint Michael Pettigrew as the City of Ann Arbor Treasurer, effective August 19, 2019;
RESOLVED, That the City Clerk be hereby directed to mail Mr. Pettigrew a certificate of such appointment in accordance with 12.5 of the Charter; and
RESOLVED, That prior to entering upon the duties of the Treasurer, Mr. Pettigrew shall take the oath required under Section 12.7 of the Charter and file the same with the City Clerk.
