PROCLAMATION
Honoring Mary Morgan
November 19, 2018
WHEREAS, Mary Morgan fostered community involvement and civic engagement since her arrival in Ann Arbor; and
WHEREAS, Mary worked for The Ann Arbor News from 1998-2008, over the years serving as opinion editor, business editor and columnist; and
WHEREAS, Mary Morgan was the co-founder and former publisher of The Ann Arbor Chronicle, an online news publication that operated from 2008 - 2014 covering in local government and civic affairs; and
WHEREAS, During her career in local journalism, she dedicated thousands of hours to covering civic meetings, conducting interviews with public officials, and researching local topics in order to provide the public with detailed insights into local government and civic affairs; and
WHEREAS, She was the 2016 - 2017 inaugural Community Leader in Residence for the University of Michigan Ginsberg Center <https://ginsberg.umich.edu/>, and serves on the Ann Arbor Public Schools Blue Ribbon Advisory Group; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Morgan created The CivCity Initiative and Ann Arbor Votes to help residents of all ages learn about local government and encounter opportunities for civic involvement in everyday life; and
WHEREAS, The City of Ann Arbor commends Ms. Morgan’s contributions to the people of Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County as she leaves our community.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Christopher Taylor, Mayor of Ann Arbor, Michigan, do hereby proclaim: November 19, 2018 the day on which we honor Mary Morgan, and recognize the outstanding contributions she has made to our community.
