PROCLAMATION
National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week
November 10 - 18, 2018
WHEREAS Everyday there are men, women and children in Ann Arbor who do not have a place to call home; and
WHEREAS, There are people in our community who are at risk of losing their housing; and
WHEREAS, In Washtenaw County, and Ann Arbor in particular, there is a lack of affordable housing available due to the low vacancy, high rent market, which makes it difficult for those at risk of or experiencing homelessness to find stable, safe, and affordable housing; and
WHEREAS, In 2017, over 5,000 people accessed homelessness services in Washtenaw County; and
WHEREAS, In an effort to draw attention to the problems of hunger and homelessness, November 10 - 18, 2018 has been designated as National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week; and
WHEREAS, The Shelter Association of Washtenaw County, in partnership with other organizations, is sponsoring events during this week that will highlight the struggles of those experiencing homelessness in our community; and
WHEREAS, The City of Ann Arbor is committed to aiding the efforts of community partners to find lasting solutions to the problems of hunger and homelessness.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Christopher Taylor, Mayor of Ann Arbor, Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of November 10 - 18, 2018 as National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week and encourage all citizens to recognize and support the efforts of providers who work every day to put an end to homelessness in our community.
