Resolution to Approve Street Closing for the Live on Washington Event - Saturday, June 2, 2018
Memorandum
Attached for your consideration is a resolution to approve the closing of Washington Street between 5th Avenue and Division for the Live on Washington event on Saturday, June 2, 2018. The street will be closed from 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM for setup and cleanup while the event itself is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM and end at 10:00 PM.

The Sponsor, The Neutral Zone, is hosting a youth-curated outdoor arts festival. The Neutral Zone teens launched this festival in 2013 to draw young people from across the community to perform, engage in and appreciate diverse artistic talent. This high-visibility event will feature a diverse array of art that includes performances on a professional stage as well as more "interactive street art" like break dancing, puppetry, and mural art.

The event will feature live music throughout the event, which will begin at 3:00 PM. The sponsor has notified and obtained support from neighboring businesses and will notify nearby apartments and churches with flyers at least two weeks prior to the event. Notification will also be provided through the City's website and GovDelivery.

The sponsor agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, and to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the streets and will reimburse the City for all event expenses.

The event has been coordinated with all relevant City service areas for the purposes of traffic control and for the protection of the health and safety of the participants and the general public.
