Resolution to Appoint Robert Pfannes as the City of Ann Arbor Interim Police Chief
Memorandum
The attached resolution provides for the appointment of Robert Pfannes as the Ann Arbor Interim Police Chief, effective March 24, 2018.

Robert Pfannes is a 31-year police veteran. He has been with the AAPD since 1998 after serving with the Detroit and Garden City police departments. He came to Ann Arbor with experience in patrol, major crimes investigations, narcotics, SWAT and patrol supervision. After working uniform patrol and two community policing assignments, he was promoted to AAPD sergeant in 2004 and has held various supervisory assignments including road patrol, Communications, Professional Standards, public information officer and Detective Lieutenant. In April of 2016 he was promoted to Deputy Chief and oversaw the Operations and Support Services divisions of the AAPD. He was selected for the position of Interim Police Chief following an internal search that involved the City Administrator, Police Department Personnel, and other City staff.

Robert has a bachelor's degree in Legal Studies from Madonna University and is a graduate of the EMU School of Police Staff and Command and EMU Basic and Advanced SWAT training. He has taught at the Western Wayne Regional Police Academy at Schoolcraft College for the last 24 years.

Robert Pfannes is highly qualified to serve and is recommended to Council for appointment as the City of Ann Arbor Interim Police Chief.
