Title
Resolution to Split the Precinct Boundary for Precinct 11 in the Fifth Ward, Creating a New Precinct 5-11 and Precinct 5-12, in Order to Balance the Number of Registered Voters and Voter Turnout
Body
Whereas, The City of Ann Arbor Election Commission must finalize any precinct boundary changes for the 2018 election cycle not later than 210 days prior to the August 2018 Primary Election, pursuant to MCL 168.661;

Whereas, Precinct 5-11 in the Fifth Ward currently has over 2700 registered voters and consistently has the highest voter turnout in the City;

Whereas, Splitting Precinct 5-11 to create two new precincts in the Fifth Ward would allow for more manageable voter registration numbers and reduced lines on busy election days;

Whereas, The two newly created precincts, 5-11 and 5-12, would be co-located at Forsythe Middle School, 1655 Newport Road, to allow for a consolidated precinct and efficient use of resources in smaller local elections;

RESOLVED, That the new voting boundaries for Precincts 5-11 and 5-12 in the Fifth Ward as indicated on the attached Precinct Maps and Precinct Descriptions be approved;

RESOLVED, That the new precinct boundaries as indicated on the attached Precinct Map and Precinct Description be effective February 8, 2018.

RESOLVED, That the City Clerk be authorized to take any administrative action necessary to implement this resolution; and

RESOLVED, That a certified copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the Washtenaw County Clerk and the Michigan Secretary of State, Bureau of Elections.
